Heritage Hunt 2015 is a non-profit community event organised with the aim to:

1. Reverse neighbourhood decline

2. Highlight the heritage and culture of the place before it is lost or crowded out by development

3. Rekindle the community’s pride for their heritage and culture

4. Bring together local community groups and businesses for a common goal

5. Help independent local businesses (especially traditional businesses) to evolve and adapt to sharply increasing rental prices due to abolishment of Rent Control Act and assist them to compete with large shopping malls

6. Encourage neighbourhood spirit and walkability

Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi Temple

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERACommonly known as Khoo Kongsi Temple, Leons San Tong Khoo Kongsi Temple is one of the  one of the most distinctive Chinese clan associations in Malaysia. It is well known worldwide for its extensive lineage that can be traced back 650 years, as well as its closely-knit and defensive congregation of buildings and a magnificent clanhouse. It is located at Cannon Square in George Town, Penang.The clan temple consists of two floors, the ground floor and the top floor. The ground floor was previously occupied by the Toon Boon Tong, or the Parentage Society, which was founded in 1884. Nowadays, it is used as the Khoo Kongsi Clan Museum. To the left of the museum is a small giftshop.

George Town Festival 2015

Fort Cornwallis

mainLocated in the Heritage Trail in the heart of Penang and a few  meters away from SEGi College Penang,  is a  fort that the British East India Company built in the late 1700s on the northeastern coast of Penang Island, Malaysia. is named after the late 18th century Governor-General of Bengal, India, Charles Cornwallis, 1st Marquess Cornwallis.The History of Fort Cornwallis started when when Sir Captain Francis Light from the British East India Company, first landed on the island with his crew in the year 1786. He was to take possession of the island from the Sultan of Kedah back then, to serve as a baser for the British company’s spice and silk trading route.Visitors who want to get more insight on the extensive history of the fort, trade agreements of British East India Company, initial developments of Penang islands can find more info on the history boards which are placed in the barracks which temporary serves as gallery to visitors now. Furthermore, archaeological findings  are also exhibited for visitors .Visitors would like to bring a memento back home, there is a kiosk in the fort which sells small souvenirs and  some light refreshments.

komtar-shopping-plazaOne of the tallest building in Penang, Komtar or also known as Komplexs Tunku Abdul Rahman is located in the heart of Penang. When the skyscraper topped out it was the second tallest building in Asia after Sunshine 60 in Tokyo. Komtar was still Malaysia’s tallest building for 3 years before it was surpassed by Menara Maybank in Kuala Lumpur in 1988. Komtar was the premier shopping destination on Penang Island, and home to all the upmarket retail outlets. It was the pride of Penang before it lost its market due to competition of other shopping malls built in Penang. Although, it still one of the must see places in Penang. The ICT Digital Mall opened at Komtar  is of the best attractions and lifesaver to the IT geeks in Penang.
