Ayer Itam Assam Laksa
Five minutes from the Kek Lok Si temple and situated right behind the Ayer Itam wet market, is undoubtedly Penang’s famous Laksa stall or also known as Famous Ayer Itam Assam Laksa. Laksa is actually rice thick rice noodles together with fresh vegetables (pineapples slices, cucumber slices, mint leaves, onions inside a spicy and sour mackerel based soup together with a dollop of shrimp paste. The patron of the stall which has been operating since past decades offers a nice steaming bowl of laksa for an affordable price. The stall is open from the afternoon till midnight.Word of Advice, Try to eat-in if possible because takeaway is not recommended. If you need do to so, then by all means separate the soup from the noodles.
