Loy Krathong, a festival celebrated by Thais and also buddhist devotees is celebrated annually in Penang. The celebration normally starts with cultural shows held in Wat Chaiyamangkalaram Thai Buddhist temple located at Lorong Burma, George Town followed by prayers by noble monks. Soon when the tide is right, a grand send off of beautifully decorated floats or ‘krathongs’ to the sea at nearby Gurney Drive was then held and led by a troupe of Thai traditional music players, dancers and singers who sang Loy Krathong song.
